Instrumental music is less a genre, more a category, since many different music genres include instrumental compositions: jazz, rock, folk and electronic to name only few. Instrumental music, however, should not be confused with simple accompanying music, used in films or TV shows. Composers such as Mike Oldfield proved that instrumental music can be a thrilling experience, almost an equivalent of classical music for 20th century. Mike Oldfield’s compositions, which included elements of world music, electronic, progressive rock and folk, created new standards in thinking about instrumental music. There is also another side of instrumental music, which could be best described as “bare” rock and folk performed without lyrics, but usually involving a lot of improvisation. This category would include such famous guitar virtuosos as Jimi Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen, as well as noted folk guitarists, such as John Fahey. Guitars are most often used as the leading instruments in instrumental compositions, but it does not have to be so. Kenny G, who is considered the most successful instrumental musician of last two decades, became so famous thanks to his smooth jazz compositions made for saxophone. Side by side with artists playing instrumental music also go instrumental bands, performing progressive rock, metal or post rock compositions, such as Dream Theater, Tortoise or Mogwai. Finally, a great part of world or ethnic music is also played without lyrics and singing. Our responsibility as a leading music booking agency is to find the rare diamonds among different music genres and booking artists, whose instrumental music is extraordinarily good, groundbreaking and thrilling to watch. Check our recommendations and contact us if there is an instrumental artist you would like to see playing live.
